About Juni

I am a software engineer who has spent more than 20 years building and shipping production systems end to end, from mobile mapping at gate5 in 2004 (Nokia from 2007) to LLM-backed products today. The work spans backend services, cloud platforms, web applications and the infrastructure underneath them. I have worked as a senior and principal engineer in Germany and New Zealand, and as a technical lead in Singapore, across product companies, enterprise software and automotive.

Since July 2026 I have built and run my own live systems, including LLM-backed features, and I help other businesses bring AI into how they work. I am equally happy owning a service, leading a small team, or being the engineer who makes an unreliable system reliable.

Experience

Senior Software Engineer II

Aug 2025 to Aug 2026
Where
Resideo (Teknique NZ)Auckland, New Zealand
When
August 2025 to August 2026
Did
  • Owned the cloud connectivity service for a consumer video product: all device-to-cloud and cloud-to-device traffic over MQTT to Azure IoT Hub with per-device identity, plus Azure Blob Storage for media, running on constrained hardware.
  • Improved reliability of cloud-connected service layers by redesigning data-processing flows and failure diagnosis, reducing error rates by 10 to 15% per release.
  • Designed a common abstraction unifying streaming, media, audio and analytics functionality behind one interface, with adaptation layers for multiple messaging protocols.
  • Automated CI infrastructure with Ansible, giving engineering teams repeatable deployment workflows, and integrated vulnerability scanning into the DevOps lifecycle.

Senior Software Developer

Nov 2023 to May 2025
Where
Framecad LimitedAuckland, New Zealand
When
November 2023 to May 2025
Did
  • Designed and implemented protobuf-based service interfaces between machine-control systems and AWS-backed C#/.NET cloud services, improving data integrity and reducing integration errors by 25%.
  • Cut release build time by 40% by containerising build workflows with Docker under GitLab CI, and architected a cross-platform build system that raised development efficiency by 35%.
  • Integrated cloud-connected features enabling remote management of deployed machines, and mentored engineers on test-driven development.

Development Expert (T4)

Jun 2021 to Oct 2023
Where
SAPWalldorf, GermanyT4 is the expert grade on SAP's technical career track.
When
June 2021 to October 2023
Did
  • Built an automated failure-analysis service in Python, C++, ABAP and Bash that cut error escalation time from 2 weeks to 6 days via commit blame tracking and real-time notifications.
  • Contributed to the Perforce to GitHub migration for kernel engineering, and integrated CI/CD and regression analytics across 18 system instances on Windows, Linux and AIX.
  • Optimised memory management in core development tooling, reducing crashes by 20% and memory consumption by 10%.

Senior Software Engineer

Sep 2017 to May 2021
Where
Mercedes-Benz / Daimler AGStuttgart, Germany
When
September 2017 to May 2021
Did
  • Led a development workstream in the radar perception team on Athena, the joint Mercedes-Benz and Bosch robotaxi programme, coordinating across two large engineering organisations developing driverless (SAE level 4/5) technology.
  • Cut driver development time from 20 weeks to 12 by designing a code-generation tool that replaced repetitive hand-written integration work with reusable abstractions.
  • Built the data and training infrastructure for machine-learning-based object classification, and established CI/CD pipelines that cut regression and integration issues by 30%.

Earlier work

2004 to 2017

Principal Software Engineer, HERE Technologies

Berlin, Germany. July 2014 to August 2017.

  • Designed and built scalable RESTful backend services for map-update verification and content delivery, serving vehicle clients in the field.
  • Delivered a customer-facing SDK for integration by external device partners, including documentation and integration support: engineering for an external developer audience.
  • Validated the SDK against an Android application layer maintained on a long-lived branch of AOSP, exercising the product exactly the way an integrator would.

Technical Lead, Coolasia Technology Pte Ltd

Singapore. October 2013 to June 2014.

  • Led combined front-end and back-end teams totalling 9 engineers to launch a fleet-management SaaS platform within a fixed 6-month deadline, architecting the job scheduler, dispatcher and cloud security layer in C#/.NET.

Principal Engineer, gate5 AG / Nokia

Berlin, Germany. March 2004 to September 2013. 9 years. gate5 was acquired by Nokia.

  • Built and launched Smart2Go, the first hybrid online/offline mobile mapping and navigation application, which won an internal Nokia innovation competition and became the foundation of Nokia Maps, a consumer product used at global scale.
  • Shipped a mapping application across Android, iOS and Windows Phone, taking one product to three platforms with a shared core.
  • Implemented positioning, location and speech subsystems, reducing concurrency defects by about 90% and improving rendering performance by 10%.
